Edinburgh to St Andrews

We left Edinburgh about midday on Friday 22 June, heading for Glasgow. It was a full day driving through the beautiful Scottish countryside, loads of cute villages, rolling hills, waterfalls and lochs, and rain!

Leaving Edinburgh in the rain ...

And out of Edinburgh on the way to St Andrews, just north of Edinburgh.

We managed to avoid the terrors warned about on the road signs.

Then we reached St Andrews

Had a peak at the North Sea from St Andrews.

Edinburgh

Visited Edinburgh Castle in the morning, amidst the rain and wind. Was still a great place to visit.

St Margaret's Chapel, the oldest building on the site, was my favourite place.

Here's Jack and Karl before we went into the Castle.

and me and Jack ...

Most Scottish buildings that have royal or military connections seem to have this symbol on them:

A few pics from the grounds of the castle

A few other views from the top of the castle over Edinburgh

Lunch with everyone at the Advocate Hotel in Edinburgh

In the evening, a meal at the Fishers in the City restaurant for John's 50th birthday.

A few sites of Edinburgh at night, walking back from the restaurant

The last few hours of John's birthday at the Whisky Bar, downstairs from our apartments.

And a few funny shots showing the Edinburgh sense of humour

Manchester to Edinburgh

On Wednesday 20 June, we left The Old Post Office at Spinnerbottom, near Manchester, and drove to Edinburgh to meet John, Liz and others.

Drove through Liverpool, mainly saw the industrial strip.

Views along the way were superb. Cute little town of Marple:

Found Edgeley in Stockport where the Carricks were married but think the church has been dismantled. Found the street (Chapel St).

Did find Dewhurst St, Manchester where the Carricks lived at one stage. This area is now very industrial.

Manchester is a huge city with loads of universities and modern buildings

Edinburgh is a beautiful old city.

Apartment where we stayed ...
